Southwestern Texas Synod Migration Ministries

The Southwestern Texas Synod shares the longest border with Mexico of any synod in the ELCA. This unique geography joins us with individuals and families fleeing dangerous circumstances or poverty in their home countries to seek asylum and opportunity in the United States.

The synod, which includes faith communities, clergy, synod leadership, and the Office of the Bishop, helps to improve the well-being of immigrants in the region through partnerships with local ministries and grassroots organizations.

Monetary donations will be used to support ministries or grassroots organizations that improve the well-being of immigrants. Ministries in the Southwestern Texas Synod can request funding to for the following categories:

  • Mutual Aid Projects: Accompaniment programs, letter-writing to detainees, document clinics, rapid response networks, etc.
  • Cash Assistance: Funds for rent, groceries, child-care, transportation, legal fees or other emergency financial needs
  • Advocacy: Hosting town halls with elected leaders, letter writing campaigns, or community meetings for efforts related to local immigration policy
  • Training and education: legal observer training, know your rights training, education about immigration policy, etc.
