Synod Assembly Offering - Free Song DownloadThe Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund Hello, I’m Chris Steubing and I serve as Director for Evangelical Mission in the Southwestern Texas Synod. For this year’s synod assembly 2022, I’ve written and recorded a song based on our theme “Got Good News? Go with it!” This song tells the incredible story of the encounter between Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch in the book of Acts. The Ethiopian was headed home by way of a wilderness road after what must have been a confusing visit to Jerusalem. He’d gone there to worship, but as a foreigner and a eunuch he would’ve been excluded from fully participating. The Holy Spirit sent Phillip out to that same road where he was able to share the good news of Jesus’ love, justice, and radical welcome for all. It was a surprising, unexpected place to go, but that’s where the good news was needed. And both of the travelers were transformed by their experience. I’m giving this song, ‘Got good news,’ away as a free download because I want to get the word out that the Spirit is sending us in our synod to go with the good news to surprising, unexpected places. The Southwestern Texas Synod is full of wilderness roads traveled by people who are hungry for good news. Our 2022 assembly offering is going to the Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund which provides sustaining financial support to new ministries and churches in vulnerable settings throughout our synod like Pláticas de Santa Sofia in San Antonio an outreach to women who’ve been excluded by the church, Eagle Pass Frontera Ministries which accompanies migrants and feeds the hungry on the border, and explorations like the Lutheran Apostolic Network of South Texas which is discovering new ways to go with the good news among ethnically and economically diverse people. This important work that the Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund supports happens because of your gifts. Your support is vital because these ministries that we share couldn’t exist without it and we want to be ready anytime the Spirit calls us to go with the good news. Will you make a contribution today to help us grow the Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund? Growing this fund by our goal of $180,000 will go a long way to help us create and sustain the gospel outreach of our synod for years to come!

Compensation Guidelines Information Meeting
The Compensation Guidelines Document is intended to be used as a tool for rostered leaders – pastors (Ministers of Word and Sacrament) and deacons (Ministers of Word and Service) -- and congregations as they work together in budgeting for the rostered leader’s compensation and benefits. This is a living document which will be re-evaluated annually.
Ministry is often thought of in terms of a rostered leader’s efforts on behalf of the members of a congregation. In the same way, the ministry of the laity includes the care of the rostered leader and the rostered leader’s family. This mutual concern for one another is a witness to what we believe and practice in the life of the church.
The Compensation Guidelines Team took into consideration the cost-of-living factors based on national and local economic conditions, demographics, and compensation in neighboring synods of our region. The team recognized that there are a variety of congregational settings and staffing arrangements throughout our synod. It is our synod’s hope that congregations will care for their rostered leaders in a manner that shows recognition for their education, their dedication to their calling, their skills, and the responsibilities that are placed upon them.
If you want to learn more about how this living document came to be, or have questions, come to an informational session on Saturday, June 4th at 10 AM. Register HERE.
