COVID Anniversary and Masking Update
Two years have now passed since we released communication that strongly encouraged a pause to in-person worship because of the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This week, as a staff, we spent a few moments recognizing all those who have died as a result of the virus and we continue to be in conversation and prayer with those, both on the staff and elsewhere in the synod, who are still impacted by their experience with the virus. The last two years have passed with lots of ups and downs, moments of hope and freedom, and moments of continued isolation. As the virus seems to be waning again, and in a way that feels much more hopeful than the previous breaks, we are beginning to look forward to what it might mean to live with just a little less anxiety, caution, and fear. The Office of the Bishop staff has once again changed our masking requirements, leaving the decision to mask up to each individual and their own personal needs. We do aim to be as hospitable and friendly as possible as we travel throughout the synod and are happy to wear masks in environments that encourage or require them. We will continue to keep an eye on any further variants and changes in virus prevalence throughout the synod territory, being mindful also of cold and flu. With the waning of the virus has also come an abundance of movement on behalf of the Holy Spirit and we pray that you will find yourselves as inspired and hopeful as we are about the new directions and places that God might be taking us in what is, hopefully, the other side of this historic time. |

Coming Soon from the Synod
Congregations should be on the lookout for a packet soon to be sent from the Synod Office. The packet will include 2021 annual statements, letters of gratitude in response to mission support giving, and a bookmark featuring the Synod's new vision statement. We hope that these items will help us to wrap up the last year while dreaming about how we might collectively follow in the footsteps of the Holy Spirit in successive years. Voting members and those who intend to visit Synod Assembly in New Braunfels should also be on the lookout for announcements regarding Synod Assembly registration in upcoming editions of eNews. |

Ukraine AidAn Update From Budapest, Hungary Rev. Rachel Eskesen, ELCA Area Desk Director for Europe, and her husband Rev. Zach Courter, Associate in Ministry, have provided all of the ELCA with an update regarding the situation in Ukraine. They ask for our continued prayer for all partner churches in the region and all in Central and Eastern Europe who are impacted, as well as for a swift and merciful end to violence. They have put together a 2-minute video that you can watch here. Please feel free to share this on your social media feeds and with your congregation. For those of you wishing to financially support European partner churches who are doing the work on the ground to respond to the needs of refugees, you can donate here. Pastors Rachel and Zach have also provided a bulletin insert from ELCA Lutheran Disaster Response and an update document which summarizes the current responses of their European partner and ELCA support. All their provided resources are linked here. Should you have trouble accessing these resources, please contact Katy Miles-Wallace at idecoordinator@swtsynod.org For more infomation visit:
