Consultation Committee

Six-Year Term

 

Responsibilities

Members of the Consultation Committee may be called to serve on an advisory panel in order to determine whether or not the bishop should bring charges against a rostered person or may make other recommendations for resolution of a controversy that would not involve proceedings before a discipline hearing committee. That panel is comprised of three ordained and two laypersons, appointed by the bishop from this committee, to assist in resolving such a situation.   (Churchwide Constitution, 20.21.04 and 20.21.05) The term officially begins September 1, 2010.

 

Skills/Abilities/Gifts

The following skills, abilities, and/or gifts are required for a person to effectively serve on the Consultation Committee:

  • Voting member of a congregation of the synod
  • Ability and willingness to pray regularly for the ministry and congregations of the    synod
  • Ability to listen to evidence and discern appropriate actions
  • Commitment to constitutional provisions and judicial processes
  • Be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit
