Synod Council Members

Four-Year Term

 

Responsibilities

The members of the Synod Council serve as the board of directors of the synod and as its interim legislative authority between meetings of the Synod Assembly. Its task is to exercise trusteeship on behalf of the synod, recommend goals and budgets, provide for an annual review of the roster, issue letters of call, and other responsibilities listed in Section 10 of the constitution. Members of the Synod Council serve on various standing committees of the Synod Council, including the Executive Committee; Administration and Finance Committee; Audit Committee; Legal, Constitutional, and Roster Review Committee; or Program and Evaluation Committee. The term officially begins September 1, 2010.

 

Skills/Abilities/Gifts

The following skills, abilities, and/or gifts are required for a person to effectively serve on the Synod Council:

  • Voting member of a congregation of the synod
  • Ability and willingness to pray regularly for the ministry and congregations of the synod
  • Ability to attend three Synod Council meetings annually, the annual Synod Assembly, and up to two Synod Council Committee meetings annually
  • Commitment to working for the good of the synod and the ELCA
  • Commitment to the Synod Council’s Statement of Purpose and Guiding Principles
  • Experience in the church beyond the congregation (e.g. cluster, conference, synod, churchwide, ecumenical, etc.)
  • Commitment to the synod’s focus: Forming Faithfulness – in Leaders, with Congregations, among Partners!
