Responsibilities

There are fourteen voting members from the Southwestern Texas Synod who will attend the 2011 Churchwide Assembly to be held on August 14-20, 2011, in Orlando, Florida.  At least one pre-assembly meeting will be held in the synod in preparation for attending the event.  The amount of materials to read and digest in preparation of the assembly is significant.  Decisions are made by the voting members on policies and directions for the entire ELCA.

Skills/Abilities/Gifts

The following skills, abilities, and/or gifts are required for a person to effectively serve as a voting member of the Churchwide Assembly:

• Voting member of a congregation of the synod
• Ability and willingness to pray regularly for the ministry and congregations of the synod and the whole ELCA
• Ability to listen to debate and take part in conversation, seeking the will of the Holy Spirit in the decision-making
• Commitment to read all the pre-assembly documents thoroughly
• Commitment to share information from the assembly with congregations and conferences upon their return
