The Installation of The Rev. Susan Jennifer Briner

I thank my God every time I remember you, 4 constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, 5 because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. - Philippians 1:3-5

Words cannot adequately express how thankful I am for all of the prayers, support and participation during this weekend’s installation. Saturday was a joyful, hope-filled day, and it was exciting to see this expression of the larger church come together, with pastors and deacons, congregational members, ecumenical guests, musicians, ministry partners, synod staff, friends and family gathered together to celebrate a key moment in the life of the church. It was a visible reminder that we are church together and that together we can accomplish more than we could ever imagine!
I want to extend my thanks to the Installation Planning Team of headed by Deacon John Dellis (Suzette Price, Leni Kirkman, Mark Hansen and Deanna Zitelman), and the Installation Worship Planning Team headed by Pastor Wayne Walther (Rev. Jessica Cain, Rev. Brad Fuerst, Rev. Erbey Gonzalez, Rev. Eric Miletti, Patti Kassel, Dr. Rob Mikulski, Vicar Enedina Vasquez) for all of their planning and managing the myriad of details that go into planning an event of this size.  Bryan Rust, our organist, and Dr. Rob Mikulski, Music Director, did a fantastic job with the music, and the Mosaic and Festival Choirs from our congregations and communities were stunning! The beautiful banners were designed by Vicar Enedina Vasquezand created by the women of Platicas and gave the procession wonderful color. I give thanks for all our worship participants from all over the country as well as from the Lutheran Church in Costa Rica!
Congregations and individuals who made the reception happen included: MacArthur Park, St. Johns, Grace, Shepherd King, Christ, San Pablo, Abiding Presence and House of Prayer in San Antonio, Bethlehem, Quihi, and my home congregation Peace, New Braunfels, Carol Couffer, Christy Halders, Carol Gaskamp, Loretta Bear, Carol Williams, Belinda Schmidt, Pastor Judi Miller, Jim Miller, Mary Jane Blair, Jeanette Pierce, led ably by Suzette Price.
I am thankful for our synod staff who pitched in wherever needed. Our hosts at University United Methodist Church were so gracious and hospitable with both their facilities and personnel and I give thanks to God for these amazing ecumenical partners. Finally, I give thanks for all those who I might have overlooked or whose names I didn’t know, who made this day so special. I look forward to the next six years in partnership with you for the sake of the gospel. My God’s richest blessings surround you!

In Christ, Bishop Sue Briner
